The Making of a Machine

@ emo2

How we got back the @emo2 handle - thanks to Twitter, you could too

Twitter_bird_logo

As some of you may have noticed, through nothing but a miracle we got back the @emo2 handle. This is all thanks to @venky @plivo.

Here's what we did to stop someone impersonating our brand, you should too. This method could also work for individuals.

Read: http://support.twitter.com/groups/33-report-a-violation/topics/148-policy-information/articles/18366-impersonation-policy

Submit a request: http://support.twitter.com/forms/impersonation

We had filled something like this in the following forms...
Description: We operate a business entity XXXX, registered in YYYY. Our current twitter account is myemo2 (replace this with your current email), and we are unable to change it to emo2 as it has been taken by someone else, leading to false brand representation and impersonation.

Anything else?(optional): We would appreciate if the twitter name emo2 is given to us as it causes brand mismatch and any wrong tweet from the other account can spoil our brand name.

This may not guarantee getting the ID, but worked for us on both occasions.

Once you are eligible for the swap, you get an email from The Captain who will ask you for confirmation:

"Hello,

Thanks for providing this information. In order to process a username transfer, please choose from one of the following options:

1. If you would like the name to replace the username on an existing Twitter account that you're already using, reply to this email and list that account's current username.
2. If you don't have a Twitter account or would like to create a new account for use with the requested username, please create an account with a placeholder username that we'll change (@tempname123, for example). You can sign up for an account here: https://twitter.com/signup

If you have an email address at your official company domain, please be sure the account is registered with an email at that domain. This makes it much easier to help if you lose access to your account in the future.

Once you reply with the account name, we'll replace the name of the account with the requested username. A username transfer only changes the username of your account, so all the content on your placeholder account (followers, Tweets) will remain intact. Your previous username will then be released immediately for use by other accounts.

Please note that this email is not a guarantee that we will be able to make the requested transfer.

Thank you,

TheCaptain
Twitter Trust & Safety"

We replied  -

"We have an existing username, it is @myemo2 . Please swap this username with the one in question."

Captain replied -

"Hello,

We have now associated @emo2 with the account you provided.

We appreciate your patience.

Thanks,

TheCaptain

and Kaboom - reload Twitter, we had been given a new life. Please follow our rebirth - @emo2 ;P

emo2 - the tool

I constantly get questions about the name emo2. Does it have a meaning? Is it something that makes sense? etc etc.

I usually retort with a quick - yes, it is Emotions Squared - abbreviated (which happens to be the business name). To be totally honest, that is exactly how we came about christening the name emo2 for our business. However, over the past months as work on the product intensifies, we have realized something amazing - emo2 is not just a name, it is also a statistical tool that lets you measure emotions during product use. Interestingly enough, it is not just a tool that measures your emotions based on sensory perceptions (by static exposure to the product).  This is like showing you a picture of a product and asking you how you feel about it. Emo2 is different; it lets you use the product and at the end of the interaction asks you how you felt about it. This I believe allows for uninterrupted interaction and the user has time to look back at the recording and identify his emotions.

This is incredible according to me. It is simple and yet an elegant method to measure emotions, especially if it is software, websites and consumer electronics. The only problem is that it could be vulnerable to social biases, this again depends on the product and the users involved. Overall, I think this is a tool we will be using a lot as we approach our launch deadlines. Would love to know from you guys if there are any other statistical tool one should be aware of while building a product.

emo2 wins at NASSCOM Product Conclave 2010 - the Full Story

This story is also cross posted at: http://emerge.nasscom.in/2010/11/emo2-wins-at-nasscom-product-conclave-2010-the-full-story/

It all started with a Tweet. This tweet in particular - http://bit.ly/cniLep by Vijay Anand. Interestingly enough, this little Tweet had traveled all over Twitter and Sameer Guglani, from The Morpheus sent out an intro for us, as a reply. The intro looked something like this - http://bit.ly/d66CC4. We were finally called in to apply for the Demo Pit event at the Nasscom Product Conclave 2010. Beat this, we were just 12 days away from the event then. Hmmm. So how did we manage to get in and even better, win it? Well, let's take a look. A good 5 days from then, after a few days of selection process - we were shortlisted (Thank you Indus for all the timely help). Several companies had applied and we made it to the short-list. It was decided that we along with 5 other (awesome) startups were to present at the event. Namely - Fusion Charts, PhiTesla, Reviere, ThinkCore and Invention Labs. What excited us the most was the fact that, the audience were to decide the outcome of the event. They were to use Flip Dial and vote for each of the companies as the presentations were being done. Skipping to the day before the event... We finally made it to Hotel Lalith Ashok in Bangalore. Drove the night from Chennai to Bangalore, can you believe it? We Checked into our hotel rooms and like almost every other time, we turned on our demo surface table unit. Here's a picture of it switched-on at our hotel room.

Media_httpemo2comwpco_kkhkw

After we spent quite a bit of time admiring it and resting after that, we decided to call it a day. Next day at the venue we were greeted with a pleasant crowd that cheered us all the way through the presentation. In fact, we were so pleasantly surprised when the audience selected us as the winners of the first ever - NASSCOM Tech Demo Pit. Yes, we have proof ;) - here you go.

Media_httpemo2comwpco_zxvta

Well well well. No post of this magnitude is complete without us showing you what we did on stage at the event right? Here is video of the demo that got us to the podium.

Before we conclude this post, we would like to add that we are thankful to Nasscom and Vijay Anand for giving us this wonderful opportunity. Thanks also goes to the wonderful audience who cheered us all the way and voted for us.  We love you guys!
